Working largely with architectural photography, Cialdella selects his images based upon his personal connection to the subject as well as its visible layering of history. He has a particular interest in the “social fabric of America manifested on the contemporary landscape.” Although his above works possess a certain amount of whimsy, he has also photographed the desolate urban sprawl in Chicago’s outlying suburbs.

The co-owner of Carr Cialdella Photography, Gary Cialdella attended Western Michigan University for his BS and MA, and the University of Notre Dame for his MFA. His work has appeared at the Art Institute of Chicago in the exhibit An Open Land: Photographs of the Midwest 1852-82; The Brauer Museum of Art at Valparaiso University; and the art museum of Southern Oregon University. He has received grants from both the Michigan Council for the Arts and the Michigan Council for the Humanities.
