Whitney Bradshaw
(American, b. 1969)

Untitled, from Scars, 2000
These two photographs from Whitney Bradshaw’s series Scars present an intimate and artful look at the regenerative stages of human tissue. Using a close-up lens, Bradshaw transforms skin into a sort of abstract landscape that is dotted with hairs, pores, and scars, suggesting the diverse qualities and textures in nature as well as the fragility of the human body.
Bradshaw’s photographs are in the collection of the Museum of Contemporary Photography at Columbia College Chicago, where she earned her MFA. Bradshaw’s Scars series has been exhibited at the International Museum of Surgical Science in Chicago, and at Dominican University’s O’Connor Art Gallery in River Forest, Illinois. Bradshaw works as the Assistant Curator of the LaSalle Bank Photography Collection.
